Using black cherries to treat gout has been around for ages. This is one of the oldest folk medicine cures for gout known. Until fairly recently nobody actually knew why it worked. They just knew it worked for many people that suffer from gout.
It is now believed that certain compounds found in cherries can actually relieve the pain of gout and help to prevent the actual gout attacks in some gout sufferers.
It is well known that uric acid buildup in the blood, past the point that the individual person with gouty arthritis can handle, can bring on a gout attack.
A compound known as anthocyanins in cherries has been found to help with the reduction of uric acid levels in the body. Anthocyanins is the compound that actually gives cherries their bright red color. This magical compound has been found to provide many more health benefits than just uric acid reduction when taken on a daily basis.
It usually takes two to three large servings of raw cherries on a daily basis to produce the benefits gout sufferers are after. I don't know about you, but I sure don't want to eat that many cherries each day. I would get sick and tired of them fast. Plus, when they are out of season they get quite expensive.
This is where black cherry juice concentrate comes to the rescue. You can get the same amount of anthocyanins in about two tablespoons of high quality concentrate. Notice I said high quality? I wasted a lot of money trying to save money with lower quality juice concentrates. These lower quality brands simply did not work with relieving my gout pain. I came close to giving up on it. Boy I'm glad I didn't.
I also tried black cherry capsules. At first I thought this was going to be great. I could just add them to the vitamins I take each day. I'll be very blunt here. They did not work, except to lighten my wallet of some hard earned money. I was very disappointed to say the least.
You will quickly find that you actually save money by spending a little more on high quality black cherry juice concentrates. Now let me give you fair warning. Cherries do not help every person that has gout. Why? I just don't know.
How much should you take? For me, two tablespoons each day works great. For others, two teaspoons a day works fine. Some gout sufferers find it takes more than two tablespoons a day. You have to do a little experimenting to find out how much you need to take to reduce the frequency and duration of your gout attacks.
If you have a sweet tooth you're gonna love it straight. If you don't particularly favor sweets, you can dilute it with water for a nice refreshing tangy drink. Give black cherry juice concentrate a try and see if it works for you.
